At Ferrer, everything we do aims to contribute to the transformation of our environment and our planet. For this reason, through all our activity we seek to generate a positive impact on all the people who are part of Ferrer, on society as a whole and on the environment, on which we depend for our subsistence as humans.
In this sense, at Ferrer we are committed to the transition of the production model towards a model based on the circular economy. We are currently in the phase of establishing the starting point to integrate a circularity strategy in all areas, both internal and external, whose objective is to promote a sustainable, local business model that promotes the rational use of natural resources.
It should be noted that currently our waste from expired medicines generated in the centres is sent to a specialised waste manager capable of segregating all the components of the medicine and recovering all packaging waste, such as the recovery of aluminium from blister packs that is reincorporated into the value chain for other productive uses. thus contributing to generate circular processes in the metallurgical industry.
Thanks to this and other measures applied in collaboration with waste managers, we have achieved a recovery rate of the waste generated of 82%, a rate much higher than that of other companies in the sector.
Another of the strategies that Ferrer is firmly committed to contributing to the circular economy is eco-design. In recent years we have carried out several eco-design studies in different product families, such as the eco-design of Gelocatil cases or the eco-design of the packaging of the entire Repavar family of products, where significant economic and environmental savings have been obtained.
In the coming years, we will develop a set of additional projects along these lines:
- Eco-design and optimisation of pharmaceutical packaging formats, which has the general objective of optimising packaging formats to reduce the carbon footprint associated with secondary and tertiary packaging.
Eco-design of the picking boxes, focused on the analysis of the current picking system of the Sant Feliu de Buixalleu logistics centre to optimise the consumption of resources and reduce its environmental impact.
Reuse of packaging in the chemical plant. The project aims to study the possible ways of reducing the consumption or reuse of packaging at the Sant Cugat del Vallès chemical plant.
At Ferrer, we will continue to bet on this way of understanding the world, we do not know how to do it any other way, and we will continue working so that, in the coming years, our contribution to the improvement of the community and the planet is even greater.
