Ferrer, in collaboration with the Hospital del Mar and the technology company Bismart, participates in a pioneering project in Spain that uses data mining tools and artificial intelligence in natural language processing, to analyse and detect common characteristics in patients with COVID-19.
It is a tool that allows more information to be automatically obtained from patients' medical records (more than 34,000 hospital and emergency discharges have been included, 2,700 of which correspond to COVID-19 patients) and thus be able to better adapt treatments to their reality. This is information that this type of technology allows to be exploited much more quickly.
The general manager of Ferrer in Spain, Ricardo Castrillo, assures that this project responds to Ferrer's mission to bring real well-being to society through innovation and research. "The project reinforces our commitment to commit to the digital transformation of health, to contribute to improving clinical results, reduce the time spent making decisions and share aspects that represent a positive change in patients and society. It is unavoidable for Ferrer, and even more so in the context of the current pandemic, to collaborate with health centers and to do so in an agile way."
For her part, Dr. Laia Sans, assistant physician of the Nephrology Service of the Hospital del Mar and coordinator of the project, together with Dr. Julio Pascual, Director of the Healthcare and Medical Area of the center, and Dr. Jordi Martínez, Director of Innovation and Digital Transformation, has pointed out that "the initiative allows us to obtain an image of the characteristics of the patients treated in the hospital, without the need to create and feed a database. A work that can help to better understand the disease".
This project joins the set of numerous initiatives carried out by Ferrer to contribute to the creation of a better society, promoting the real well-being of people.
